What Does INCI Mean on Beauty Products?
INCI stands for International Nomenclature of Cosmetic Ingredients.
That might sound like a big science word, but it’s actually pretty simple.
When you look at the ingredient list on skincare, makeup, or shampoo, the names you see are written using INCI names. These are standardized ingredient names used all over the world so everyone can understand exactly what is inside a product.
For example:
Sunflower Oil might appear as Helianthus Annuus Seed Oil
Vitamin E might appear as Tocopherol
Jojoba Oil might appear as Simmondsia Chinensis Seed Oil
Even though the names look complicated, they’re often just the scientific name for the plant or ingredient.
